Join us for the May meeting of the Lafayette–Winona Civic League on Tuesday, May 19, as we prepare for an important year ahead for our neighborhood. During this meeting, we will hold elections for the 2026–2027 Civic League Board. We encourage all members to attend, meet the candidates, and help shape the future of our community.

We are also pleased to welcome guest speaker Ricky Matthews from the City of Norfolk Emergency Management team. Ricky will discuss disaster preparedness in Norfolk, including how residents can better prepare for hurricanes, flooding, severe weather, and other emergencies that may impact our area. This will be a valuable opportunity to learn practical preparedness tips and ask questions about emergency planning for our neighborhoods.

About our Presenter:

Speaker Bio — Ricky Matthews

Ricky Matthews serves as an Emergency Planner with the City of Norfolk Emergency Management team. Prior to joining the City of Norfolk, he spent nearly a decade working as a broadcast meteorologist in Hampton Roads, helping keep the community informed during severe weather events and emergencies. His background in weather communication and public safety now supports his work helping Norfolk residents and neighborhoods better prepare for disasters and emergencies.
